Blog Post #1

Hi my name is Cassandra and i was born in united states. My relationship with language is I speak two different languages English,Spanish and a little bit of Italian and sometimes I have the tendency to mix them. Basically my whole life I've been surronded wirth english and spanish and I learned Italian in high school for three  years and till now i still manage to remember everything I learned. For example my mom would say in Spanish Como Esta's which means how are you and I would just respond by saying I'm good in english and that would get her mad. Also, there would be times in which I would mix spanish and english together in one sentence. I know how to read and write Spanish and at times I remember some of my Italian in which I took in high school for three years. My parents are from Bolivia and sometimes the things they say I don't understand because it's something they learned there. I think that sometimes I don't understand Spanish because people have different ways of speaking Spanish. In school I hear all different types of languages and sometimes the things I hear in spanish are things I don't understand. People from Colombia,Ecuador, Dominican republic and Puerto Rico speak different forms of spanish and honestly I don't understand a thing. With my friends it isn't a problem at all because we all speak english and at work they all speak english so it isn't a problem for me.

At home my parents always spoke spanish to me and that's how I learned to speak that language. When I went to Bolivia when I was little all they did was speak spanish and that's how I manages to learn that language. In school all my teachers and friends spoke english so that was something I learned really quickly and it was a language that I already knew because I was born here in USA. All the shows I watched on TV helped me learn this language. My hypothesis of how language is acuqiured is you learn it by hearing  because after you heard that language so many times you begin to know it without even realizing it and therefore you end up speaking that language. I know two languages and it is the same because you're going through the same process which is you're always hearing it and that's how you're learning. There are so many different languages in this world you begin to think how was it made. It's an answer which we may never find out. What I wondered about languages is how did we manage to form so many languages throughout the years. Was there someone a long time ago who taught people these different types of languages and somehow these people made up their own languages which turned out to be international languages? Who knows I may be right or maybe not.
